Many off-shore producers who manage vast chains of suppliers, vendors, and factories do not adequately contemplate that modern day slavery might exist somewhere within that labyrinth. From their vantage point, the forced labor of workers at the bottom of the chain is simply too far away in time and distance to be visible and therefore addressable. However, a recent survey by Ashridge Center for Business and Sustainability found that 71 percent of companies believe that there IS a likelihood of slave labour within their supply chains, even though they haven’t yet proven that as fact.
